Ohio Valley Eye Institute offers state-of-the-art premium cataract correction to help patients achieve freedom of clear vision.
Our Surgeons, led by Dr. David Malitz, use advanced Ozil Ultrasound technique in performing cataract surgery. The technique avoids exposure to laser radiation using only ultrasound energy to break up the cataract. Although many Evansville Cataract Surgeons use 30 year old technology placing a needle behind the eye and risking damage to the eye and delicate nerves and muscles surrounding the eye, for 20 years Dr. Malitz has used only eye drops (topical anesthetic) to numb the eye, Dr. Malitz creates only a tiny two plane self-sealing incision and high-energy sound waves to break the cataract into very small particles which are then vacuumed from the eye with specially designed Alcon equipment. Alcon is the leader in equipment to remove cataracts and is used by specially trained surgeons to minimize stray energy that can damage the cornea, iris and capsule. To compensate for the removal of the eye’s natural lens, an intra-ocular lens (IOL) is implanted into the eye. We customize the lens and lens material to be most compatable with the patients’ needs and budget. Even our basic lens is an aspheric acrylic design to optomize visual performance. For patients that want the most advanced technology we offer the Technis Multifocal lens which allows consistent near and far vision without the aid for glasses. For those that are not candidates for this technology we also offer the Restor and Trulign and Crystalens as well as Toric lens designs (Staar, Alcon and AMO) to correct astigmatism. After using this special small incision, the eye remains tightly sealed by the natural outward pressure within your eye and stitches and patches are not even needed.
The cataract removal technique Ohio Valley Eye Institute uses is often preferred to traditional methods because patients are more comfortable during and after the procedure. Because this revolutionary technique uses only eye drops to numb the eye, anesthetic injections, stitches, or eye patches are unnecessary. We also offer the services of an anesthetist or anesthesiologist to maximize comfort during the procedure. Most patients notice a rapid visual improvement with this technique which is done on an outpatient surgery center that is exclusively designed, certified and used for eye surgery minimizing the cost of hospital visits and the risk of hospital acquired infections.
